Frank Zappa, indy musician, Record Industry, recording, Steve Vai

Zappa On The Record Industry

Not sure when this was recorded, but it still rings true today. Basically he advances that we were better off with the 60’s cigar chomping entrepreneur record executive because they always took chances. Who can disagree?

Frank Zappa was one of the first true indy musicians. He started Smashing Pumpkin Records after a fight with his old record company and never looked back. He also influenced guitarist Steve Vai who later started Favored Nation and gave musicians fair 50/50 record deals.

In the video, Zappa also dispenses some advice on (hum) safe sex. Hey, he just wanted to help.
